Mentoring

Currently, many Interpreter Training Programs (ITPs) do not adequately prepare students to enter into the field of educational interpreting. The students who do choose to enter this field often feel overwhelmed by the linguistic, social, political and legal guidelines and requirements placed upon them. C & C Connection desires to create a transitional bridge between ITPs and educational interpreting by providing curriculum tools that can be used as supplemental coursework or an extracurricular study group.

C & C's main objective is to enhance the current skill set and knowledge base of working educational interpreters seeking certification. Today, many states are requiring licensure and certification for interpreters working in educational settings. Mentoring can be individualized to meet any interpreter at their current level of skill. The time commitment can be as brief as a couple of sessions or ongoing for as long as needed. Most mentoring activities are aligned with the EIPA skill domains. Activities include an initial skill assessment (both ASL to English and English to ASL), goal setting, and assignments designed to help achieve plan goals.
